Abstract

This article refers to Title X dispute settlement in the Central America-European Union Association Agreement (AA), signed in 2012. The AA is an international treaty signed by two parties: Central America and the European Union and its corresponding member countries. For this reason, the AA is considered the first region-to-region agreement which, in the case of Central America, has given it the prospect of becoming an isthmus or region with common interests and solidarity in trade, political and cooperation matters. These initial reflections show that Central America did not use its own multilateral or bilateral dispute settlement mechanisms. It entered the negotiation process with a collective Title X proposal on dispute settlement for the Trade Pillar, due, among other reasons, to the fact that the Central American dispute settlement mechanism of SIECA is limited to Central American countries.
