The world is undergoing unprecedented international changes. In 2022, the ongoing impact of COVID-19, the geopolitical crisis resulting from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the confrontational industrial policies of Europe and the U.S. have fueled the rise of deglobalization in the West. Since the 1990s, China has promoted “peaceful development” as its central narrative, and in the new era, it has proposed the “Community of Shared Future for Mankind” to support global integration. This study examines how China, through the dissemination of its culinary culture in Central America, has sought to strengthen its international image in a changing global context, identifying the challenges it faces.
