Abstract

REGIONAL INTEGRATION PROCESSES HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS SINCE THE END OF THE COLD WAR, WHICH HAS GENERATED NUMEROUS STUDIES FROM A PRACTICAL PERSPECTIVE. HOWEVER, THE SAME HAS NOT OCCURRED WITH THE THEORIZATION OF THE ELEMENTS AND DYNAMICS THAT CHARACTERIZE THE CONSTRUCTION OF REGIONS AND REGIONALISM, WHICH ARE BASIC TO UNDERSTANDING INTEGRATION. TO THIS MUST BE ADDED THE QUESTION OF OLD AND NEW REGIONALISM, WHICH REPRESENTS AN IMPORTANT ADVANCE IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE PHENOMENA TAKING PLACE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 21ST CENTURY.
