Abstract

Water is of great importance in the development of a region.
Grecia’s County, in the province of Alajuela, Costa Rica has great
growth potential, however, the situation with the water resource’s
availability raises concerns and could put it at stake. This is due to
factors such as socioeconomic and demographic growth, climate
change and management capacity of entities related to the subject.
This paper studies the effects, how they relate to the areas of
concern as defined above and what scenarios can be envisaged
for the future. The study was carried out with prospective analysis
tools such as extrapolating quantitative data, policy analysis, implementation
of the Delphi methodology, scenario generation and
use of software such as Mactor, and Micmac.
