Abstract

In 1978 the People's Republic of China launched an economic reform focused on the development of agriculture, industry, technology and defense. From 1978 to the beginning of the 21st century, China had increased its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). During those years the population of the country grew, becoming the country with the largest population in the world. This economic and population growth brought with it the deterioration of its environment, mainly its water and its air. The serious situation of contamination of the water resource in China has posed a great challenge to the Communist Party in front of the Centennial of the establishment of the Republic in 2049. In that sense, the strategy adopted by the government to address this problem has focused on two edges: the creation of mega structures and the recovery of watersheds.
