Abstract

THIS ARTICLE ANALYZES BASIC GRAIN CHAINS AS PART OF THE RESPONSE TO THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (MDGS) IN CENTRAL AMERICA, THROUGH HEALTH POLICIES. THE CONCLUSION IS THAT ALTHOUGH THE REGION HAS ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM WITH INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENTS, THE VULNERABILITY OF RURAL POPULATIONS IS STILL HIGH. THE BASIC GRAINS CHAINS SHOW A LACK OF INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK THAT AFFECTS SMALL-SCALE PRODUCERS.
