Abstract

DISCUSSES SOME OF THE PROBLEMS AFFLICTING LATIN AMERICAN STATE OFFICIALS, PARTICULARLY THE CASE OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SO-CALLED DEMOCRATIC CONSOLIDATION PROCESSES. HE STATES THAT TODAY'S PROBLEMS ARE THOSE OF A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY FULL OF VOIDS, WHILE YESTERDAY'S PROBLEMS ARE THOSE OF AN AUTHORITARIAN, NON-DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY. BETWEEN THE TWO THERE IS A BRIDGE OF PROBLEMS, WHICH STILL EXIST, BUT THE CURRENT SITUATION, AT LEAST, IS FORCED TO POLITICAL PLURALISM.
