Abstract

The use of data science to address the Covid 19 pandemic in Costa Rica has generated the possibility of strengthening and expanding the use of emerging technologies in decision-making processes that depend on reliable and timely data. In Costa Rica, throughout the pandemic, relevant inputs have been generated in the formulation of public health policies with the perspective of being more effective in avoiding exposure to prevent the disease, attending the most vulnerable populations and generating the greatest welfare and quality of life for the population in a complex context from the social, economic and sanitary perspective. The Covid 19 pandemic and the research project developed at the University of Costa Rica, has allowed to reflect the strengthening of the use and knowledge of data science for public policy decision making in the health sector through the application and formation of collaborative networks in different areas. It has also enhanced the use of data science for the enrichment of decision making and policies based on evidence and data. The use of technology in a way that is more adapted to the problems in a multi-threat context, forces the use of technology in the solution of health emergencies and health disasters, in order to streamline the management of information and act in a more prompt and timely manner.
