Abstract

Central America today presents a significant lag in infrastructure. It is known that the countries of the region should at least doubling their investment to improve the quality of their infrastructure, but most of the countries have high fiscal deficits which, added to the crisis generated by COVID-19, make it unlikely an increase in public´s investment in infrastructure in the medium term. The experience and financial resources of the private sector would help to close this gap, but in order to involve the private sector in an efficient way in the provision of infrastructure and to benefit from the economic reactivation that it would generate, it is necessary to strengthen the Public Private Partnership programs (PPP) of the region, to ensure the structuring of projects under the best PPP practices.
